These Are The Skincare Ingredients You Need In 2021!

Starting the year right means starting with fresh skin. And that comes down to good lifestyle practices and of course— skincare. But just how do you know that you’re picking out the right skincare products for your complexion? What are some key skincare ingredients to look out for?

Well, to help you narrow your search, these are the skincare ingredients we think everyone should be stocking up in 2021.

1. AHA/BHA exfoliators

To kick things off, let’s talk exfoliation. Exfoliation helps slough off dead skin, dirt, and residual makeup from the surface of your skin, leaving it feeling smoother and softer. You can do this with a physical exfoliant (a damp cloth, pumice stones, brushes), or a chemical one (AHA, BHA acids).

AHA and BHA acids are considered to be more gentle methods of exfoliation as compared to their physical counterparts. But which you use depends heavily on the condition of your skin. AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) is typically used to remove dead skin cells.

BHA (beta hydroxy acid) on the other hand, is used to penetrate deeper into the pores to remove sebum. So if you’re trying to combat acne, BHAs are probably the better bet.

2. Hyaluronic acid

Worried about problems regarding your skin’s moisture barrier? Then look no further beyond Hyaluronic Acid. A powerful humectant that has made it a skincare staple for celebrities and skincare junkies alike, this miraculous ingredient can hold up to x1000 times its own weight in moisture!

This makes it an especially handy skincare ingredient to have in your arsenal. In fact, we also use it in Beaute Library’s 24K Gold Hydrating Concentrate given its hydrating properties that trap in moisture. Click here to visit our Lazada storefront & find out more about this lustrous marvel.

3. Witch Hazel Extract

While not the flashiest buzzword in the industry, the skincare benefits of witch hazel extract are second to none. Popularly used as an astringent (meaning that it can shrink your pores), witch hazel extract can help to relieve inflammation in your skin. It’s also great for acne, as it is capable of protecting your face from acne-causing bacteria.

Witch hazel works well for men, too. Use it as an aftershave, and the extract will help protect any microscopic cuts on your skin without leaving a stinging/burning sensation. Which is why we’ve made it a core component in our Deep Hydro Lace Mask!

4. Cucumber extract

While we’re on the topic of all-natural ingredients, you would be remiss to leave cucumbers out of the picture. As they are about 95% water, this makes cucumbers great for quenching dry skin.

5. Marine collagen

You’ve heard it before: your skin needs collagen to stay supple and firm. Without it and elastin, you’ll eventually see fine lines and wrinkles developing. Which is why the market catchment for collagen is expected to reach nearly $4.6 billion by 2023.

However, the most commonly used form of collagen derived from cows is actually pretty difficult to absorb for your skin. Marine collagen derived from fish skins on the other hand is more compatible for our own skin structure. This makes it best suited to replenish our depleting collagen supply.

6. Panthenol

More commonly referred to as Vitamin B5, panthenol has become somewhat of a rising star in the skincare industry. This is owing to its ability to help soothe irritation and inflammation on your face, while simultaneously promoting healing. What’s even more miraculous is that panthenol can protect your face from external stressors such as pollution, making it great for sensitive skin.

7. Retinol

To close our list, we’re ending it on a more familiar note: retinols. Essentially Vitamin A derivatives, retinols are another form of exfoliants designed to slough off dead, dull skin from your face. They have been seeing an uptick in popularity as of late owing to how they are able to resurface your skin. They can even diminish the appearance of wrinkles, dubbing them anti-aging superstars.

But as with all chemical exfoliants, they may irritate your skin so use with caution.
